Fellow travellers, I know that a lot of people (even some on the left) are now celebrating the release of those 33 Chilean miners after their "terrible ordeal" under the ground.
Now, I don't want to condemn people outright for feeling a sense of relief. However, I do think it should be remembered that these men aren't simply heroes. After all, they are employees of a massive and hugely profitable mining company and therefore complicit in the rape of Gaia.
Also, anyone who is concerned about gender equity must be more than a little disturbed that every one of the miners concerned is a testosteroid. I mean,
where are all the women?
Clearly, the top brass in this copper mine need some serious attitudinal reconstruction. They are almost as flagrant in their disregard for affirmative action policies as CEOs in Australia - and that's saying something!
